Biography: Making art is a healing process for me, my memory’s role in imagery, and how my life experiences tie together to capture the world as I encounter it. I respond with new bodies of work that reflect my inspirational teachers as well as my travels. My work relies on simple and straightforward compositions where clarity is preserved by the balance of formal elements such as expressive textures, traditional forms, colour, variety, and repeated patterns. I am intensely drawn to glass as a material for my artistic expression because it can be manipulated in ways that are unlike any other medium. This curiosity is demonstrated visually, in how I use multiple techniques, and methods for creating my work. I find the creative process of working with glass extremely challenging and rewarding. When communicating my visions, glass forces me to be constantly in touch with new learning and practice. My development as an artist has been meaningfully guided by my journey through graduate studies at Penland School of Crafts (North Carolina), Urban Glass (New York), and Scuola del Vetro Abate Zanetti (Murano, Italy). Working with internationally known artist such as Nick Mount, Caroline Madden, Etsuko Nishi, Mattia Salvadore, Livio Serena, Andrea Zilio, and Davide Penso, have all encouraged me to continually fine tune my work to illustrate the positive transformational potential of art. These gifts of practice, mentorship and love for art will continue to inspire me as I grow as an artist and an educator.
