Biography: Gopi Gajwani, painter and designer was born in Sind in 1938. He graduated in Graphic Designing from the Delhi School of Art in 1959, and with Delhi as his base, established himself as a multidimensional artiste, winning accolades for his designs, paintings, cartoons and caricatures.
He has designed some 30-plus coffee table glossies, two with his own photographs (Rajasthan, Delhi-Agra-Jaipur). He was a designer at the American Centre for twenty nine years and creates stunning, elegant posters that have served as cultural milestones for two generatings – the harbingers of plays, films, dances and workshops, both home-grown and foreign. He's also a cartoonist, illustrator and film-maker. His hallmark is class – a precise coordination of understatement, clean briefs and perfectly balanced spaces.
