Biography: Merih Akcam was born in Istanbul, in 1955. Her father is Abdulhalim Pasha`s nephew who lived in Istanbul as a governor of a sanjak during the period of Ottoman Empire. Her mother is from Schinkel`s family who has members working as an architect for the royal family in Germany. Merih Akcam started taking personal lessons in west philosophy and human psicohology also studied on metaphysics at age thirteen. She educated in old civilizations, symbols and ocultizm by his brother Haluk Akcam for a long time. Merih Akcam opened her first exhibition in Kadikoy in 1969. After graduating from Kadikoy Kiz College in 1972, she gave all her intention to art. She took lessons from (M.S.U.) teachers in Academy and improved her drawing. Semiha Hoca, Munevver Hoca, İsmet Toprak, Mehmet Pesen and Prof. Devrim Erbil are the teachers she worked with. Merih Akcam started painting using still life and landscape techniques in 1969. After her point of view settled in 1982, she started doing paintings using metaphysics and ezoterik subjects named as “the isolation of surreal symbolizm” in 1990. Since then, she has continued working with Prof. Devrim Erbil and showed an important progress in gravure. Merih Akcam tries to draw compositions on life, the secret of life and beyond the life. She works up four elements. Among these, water is the one, she works deeply on. She gives a new meaning to water, within a frame of, life and beyond, human and emotions to express the water as a symbol in metaphysic level.
She has participated in 84 group exhibitions and established 27 solo exhibitions untill now. Her works can be found private collections both in Turkey and abroad.
