Biography: 1924 Born in Amagasaki city, Hyogo prefecture.
1948 Graduated from the Japanese painting department of Kyoto City Specialist School of Arts, soon changed to Western-Style painting. Studied at the Osaka Municipal Art Institute.
1949 Participated in the establishment of Amagasaki Art Association.
1950 Studied under Tsuguo Itoh and participated in Shinseisaku-ha Kyokai group exhibition until 1954.
1952 Organized Zero-kai group with Saburo Murakami, Akira Kanayama, Atsuko Tanaka. Participated in the Contemporary Art Conference (so-called Genbi)
1954 Began Acion-Painting by scattering paint on the canvas with the feet. Became a member of the Gutai Art Association.
1957 Recognized by Michel Tapie and invited to many exhibitons of Informel Art which he organized both in Japan and abroad. Became the staff of Amagasaki Municipal Seibun Primary School. (retired 1960)
1965 Awarded the 2nd Amagasaki Citizen's Cultural Award.
1968 Became an instructor of Western- Style painting depaetment of the Osaka Welfare Annuity Hall's cultural class.
1971 Entered the Buddhist priesthood at Enryaku Temple, Mt.Hiei. Buddhist name, Sodo Shiraga.
1972 Jiro Yoshihara died and the Gutai Art Association was dissolved.
1987 Amarded the Hyogo Cultural Award.
