Biography: "People often ask me where I get my inspiration from and how does it take me to create a sculpture. My answer is usually the being: inspiration comes from everyday life, from something I read, from conversations with people, family mile stones. Essentially, anything that creates a stir of emotions in me; as far as how long it takes me to create a sculpture, my answer is: as long as I’ve been alive. This means that a sculpture is a part of who I am and the way I think, based on my past experiences. At times I may know what to say but it may take me years to recreate how I want to express it to the world.
I believe that art should be more than a merely decorative object: something to match the colour of your sofa or walls. It should have a meaning, transmit emotions, as well as being aesthetically well balanced."
Lorenzo Quinn was born is Rome in 1966 and although he was raised both in the United States and Italy, it is here, in Italy, where he discovered his love and devotion for art.
Although he is very young for the art world, it is possible to say that Lorenzo has already had a long and successful art career. Early on in his age he has shown an innate ability to communicate emotions through his work. With only twenty one years of age he gained the respect of the New York arts community by being commissioned a work of art by the United Nations of which a stamp was later made. Thanks to this Lorenzo was selected to head the Absolut Vodka ad campaign, a campaign for which only the top world artists are chosen. Shortly after he was commissioned by the Vatican to create a sculpture of Saint Anthony in order to commemorate the eighth centennial of his death. The sculpture was blessed by the Pope in front of 35,000 people in Saint Peter’s square and later placed in the Basilica del Santo in Padua where it is still to date one of the most visited monuments of the city.
The sculptor has exhibited his work in all five continents and his art works are present in all of the world’s international art fairs. Presently, the artist has projected many prestigious exhibits in several countries.
By the same token, he has just finished creating public sculptures for London, Birmingham and Sant Climent de Llobregat (Barcelona). This last one has the singularity of being the only live bronze sculpture in the world since it will be growing each year along with the city.
In November 2005 two monuments were inaugurated at the largest Sport Academy of the world “Aspire” in Doha, Qatar, where the 2006 Sport Games will take place.
In all of Lorenzo’s work you may breathe a search for a united world filled with positive emotions and often forgotten values and without a doubt this is most visible in his major project called “Humanity”.
This project represents in essence the human voyage through time as a three-dimensional encyclopedia accessible to all. The monument is in the form of the Globe and is covered in its entirety by 100 plaques each one describing one of the 100 most important moments of Human Evolution. These moments have been carefully selected to represent all races and cultures of the world so as to genuinely represent our common voyage through time. The goal is to place five monuments, one in each continent and to make them interactive and so to join the world through culture and history.
"Life is a wonderful endless journey...if you know how to live it."
