Biography: Simonetta Funel was born in Naples where she graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts. Since 1985 she is a restorator of prints and drawings at the Naples Capodimonte Museum. Her expression field comprises drawings, incisions and painting. At the beginning of the 21st century, she started to produce short digital films and animations in which love is the recurring theme, as well as an empathy with everything that is alive and moves.
The animations are achieved by single shot technique. Each story lasts the space of an emotion and is achieved with drawings, small objects, cut-outs and shadows. The ‘raw’ technique of these animations reveals that all the systems to obtain movement and the utilization of objects that seem to belong to every day life, produce a poetic sensation.
The films are enhanced by original music themes, at times synthesized electronically by the author herself.

Simonetta Funel è nata a Napoli. Laureata all’Accademia di Belle Arti, dal 1985 è restauratrice di stampe e disegni presso il Museo di Capodimonte di Napoli. Il suo campo di espressione è quello dei disegni, dell’incisione e della pittura. All’ alba del nuovo millennio ha iniziato a produrre piccoli filmati in digitale, di animazione e non. Il tema ricorrente è l’amore, e l’empatia con tutto quello che è vivo e si muove.
Le animazioni sono costruite con la tecnica dello scatto singolo. Ogni storia dura lo spazio di un’emozione ed è realizzata con disegni, piccoli oggetti, sagome, ombre. La tecnica “povera” di queste animazioni, svela tutti i sistemi per ottenere il movimento e dall’utilizzo di cose che sembrano appartenere al quotidiano di tutti, nasce un senso poetico.
I filmati sono arricchiti da musiche originali, qualche volta “sintetizzate” al computer dalla stessa autrice.
