Biography: ‘…love songs materialized by unending colours and forms in my paintings’
Nguyen Than’s paintings are emotional, rich, lush, poetic and mysterious. After the fall of Saigon, he was forbidden to paint and drove a cyclo through the streets to support his family - but he never stopped painting ‘in his mind’. His paintings are concerned with loss, with the war and with his own life - past, present and future. He is a ‘natural expressionist’ – his colours and his compositions overflowing from his paintings.
