Biography: SAP - ANTONIO SAPIENZA
Born in Siracusa in 1936, Antonio Sapienza, known as "Sap" in the artworld, lives and works in Catania. Master of spatula, he grew up in an artistic family (his grandfather was a professional sculptor, and his father was naval modeller), eclectic talent, he has interests in painting, writing and theatrical direction.
As a writer, he has published some of his works, and won a national award in 1998. As a director, he saw many of his plays performed, and he is currently teaching Drama and History of Theatre at the University "G. Marconi" in Catania. In April 2003, he was conferred with the title of Honorary Member of the National Writers and Artists Union, national referent for Italy at UNESCO, and he was enclosed as a representative of excellence in the Italian and European Writers and Artists Register.
Expressionist painter, informal, abstractionist, with surrealist touches, he has had numerous personal exhibitions, in galleries and theatres, and, on invitation, he took part to some collective exhibitions, in Italy and abroad most recently in Rapaz, Swiss, in May 2003.
