About the Artist: I live and paint in New York. As a figurative and portrait painter, I draw my inspiration from direct observation of life, looking for the unique qualities that give each subject its personal vitality. In a portrait, I search for the self that endures beyond the pose or mood of the moment. I work primarily in oils, oil and chalk pastels, charcoal and graphite. I paint for myself and on commission (both adults and children). Where possible, the subject sits for several sessions. Where this is not possible, the work is developed from photographs which I take in the subject's own surroundings and from drawings done, if feasible, from life. My palette is rich in color, more impressionistic than naturalistic.
