Biography: Andrew Smith - AS Sculpture began his career as a Monumental Stone Mason Carver, developing skills in figurative and decorative Stone Carving. After training for eight years he became a professional sculptor in 1989, widening his skills not only in stone but in Wood, Polystyrene [Film Sets], Plaster, Clay, Plastics, Mould and Mould Making, building a reputation as a creator of distinctive sculpture in many media's.

The majority of his time has been devoted to school and other educational work in the form of residencies and demonstrations. Andrew has built a foundation of public works with local authorities, producing sculptures to date in Hillingdon, Harrow, Hanwell, Aylesbury, Birmingham and Bedford amongst others. Throughout his career he has always made a point of forming an interactive relationship with commissioners, clients and pupils.

During his residencies the audience are able to experience at first hand stone carving as a profession and to see and feel the process as the sculpture develops, giving an insight into the whole process. Passing on his knowledge in the profession helps to remind the community at all levels the importance of re-discovering craft based art techniques and traditional skills that are gradually disappearing through today's society.

Andrew has worked extensively with local authorities and other organisations to produce large and small-scale public art work, including landscaping sites and site-specific work, working alongside architects and designers through to the installation of the work on site.

In between Residencies and Private Commissions his personal time is spent creating sculptures to be exhibited and sold at Galleries throughout the United Kingdom.
