Biography: Sculpture has been a form of human expression from the days of the prehistoric men who chipped and carved soft stone or fashioned figurines out of damp clay. Much of our history has been gathered from remnants of sculpture and fragments of work that were both functional and beautiful. Sculpture represents some of the earliest known forms of artistic expression. To be a sculptor is to empower others to share the beauty of form.
Stone is my favorite media. While there are many materials available to create three dimensional images I find stone the one that permits one's art to be caressed while in the making. The relationship between the piece and the artist is unique in that from the rough stone to the final completed piece the sculptor is in complete control. It remains one of a kind and represents determination, self discipline and respect for the material.
Clay to me, is the most versatile of all sculpturing media. It is the medium which reveals the hand and hopefully the soul of the artist. The hand is literally imprinted into the clay. Clay sketches are in themselves finished pieces that could be considered the "preliminary drawing" for a stone sculpture.
Bronze on the other hand represents an issued piece. It could be unique as in one of a kind or it could be one of a limited number. The original could have been of almost any media that permits a mold to be made.
I hope this very brief introduction helps you appreciate my passion for sculpture and explains the reason I devote so much time creating forms in three dimensions.
