The Fables of La Fontaine; Romantic engravings of Auguste Delierre
Jean de La Fontaine (July 8, 1621 – April 13, 1695) was the most famous French fabulist and his fables are the subjects for Delierre's engravings.
Auguste Delierre was born in Paris in 1829. He was a well known painter and engraver who had regular exhibitions at the Salon in Paris between 1852 and 1882. He painted animals, the hunt, landscapes and genre and history paintings. Auguste Delierre is well known for his engravings on the Fables of La Fontaine. The engravings are from 1883.
