The inauguration of galleries has acquired the status of lavish social dos. Artists and art connoisseurs discuss their views on art over wine and cheese - no less- and enjoy the opulent ambience of the venue. The launch of Vikram Bachhawat's art gallery, Aakriti, on Sunday was no different. The plush gallery was buzzing with artists like Sanat Kar, KG Subramanyan and budding weilders of the brush along with art lovers.
Subramanyan inaugurated the gallery. More than 41 paintings by renowned as well as budding artists adorned the walls of the swank gallery. J Sultan Ali's work showing tow men playing the tabla and MF Hussain's painting in brown and blue that depicts a boat in the sea vie for pride of place in the gallery. Laxma Gaud's portrayal of a middle-aged Indian woman, too, attracted attention with its vibrant hues that sharply contrasted Wasim Kapoor's work in black and white.
All the paintings on display are from Bachhawat's personal collection. The gallery sprawls over a 2,500 sq. ft. area, swathed in white marble. "I'd like to promote budding, young artists. It will be a platform for true talent. But masterpieces will feature among the exhibits, too," said Bachhawat.
