Cnpainting gallery


Since 1987 Cnpainting gallery has been exhibiting works by outstanding contemporary Chinese artists. As records of their observations on our landscape and society, artists are exploring issues such as gender, people, and the environment, all highly relevant in our country.

Through traditional Chinese painting Cnpainting gallery's artists are supplying a social commentary on the political, economical and cultural transformations within contemporary Chinese society.

Cnpainting was founded in 1987 by American Mickeal Cunning Ham who came to China in 1986 to teach art histry at Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai. At the same year he began organizing exhibitions for young Chinese artists which eventually lead to the establishment of Cnpainting Gallery. Since then Cnpainting gallery has grown up for nearly 17 years.
