Gallery Statement:
BECA is an acronym for Bridge for Emerging Contemporary Art. In January 2008 we began assisting both new and established collectors with the discovery of the newest works by today's most innovative emerging artists and designers from around the world. We feature a variety of contemporary sculpture, paintings, works on paper, photography, textiles, installations, mixed media works as well as what's new in design. In addition, the gallery introduced a broad-based initiative which has benefited numerous non-profit organizations both here in New Orleans and throughout the United States. The gallery is committed to donating 5% of each sale of art or art gift certificate to the (501)(c)(3) non-profit organization of the collector's choice and we look forward to your participation and to adding a small contribution to many worthy efforts and projects.
Great art and no sales tax! BECA gallery is proud to be located in a LA State designated cultural district of New Orleans at 527 St. Joseph Street near the corner of Camp Street, across from the Contemporary Arts Center. With this cultural designation, our location is exempt from charging sales tax on all original works of art and limited editions of 100 and fewer.
Along with the success of the gallery program came the realization of how much truly innovative work by emerging artists and designers was not being given a public audience. New art and design fuels the best of what's yet to come on this planet so we wanted to create an avenue where these benefits could be realized in an expanded and evolving format, unrestricted by commercial constraints. A global center dedicated to creating public exhibitions of emerging art + design was needed so the non-profit arm of the gallery, The BECA Foundation, was founded to begin laying the ground work to accomplish this.
On July 4, 2009, we will open CoLAB Projects, a gallery representing emerging and established artists + designers, at our current location at 527 St. Joseph Street. CoLAB Projects will replace BECA gallery which will present its last physical exhibition titled, '12x12x122' from June 6 - July 3, 2009. BECA's unique exhibition program dedicated to emerging art + design will continue and grow exponentially under the guidance of The BECA Foundation. This Foundation needs your assistance to be all that it can be so please visit http://www.thebecafoundation.org to learn more.
This website, http://www.becagallery.com will maintain an archive of BECA gallery past exhibitions which took place prior to the founding of The BECA Foundation. It will also continue to serve as a leading online venue of original works priced under $500 and also Artist Limited Editions. This online hub will continue to grow and offer you a highly diverse range of affordable works created by some of the most innovative emerging artists + designers from around the world. Our 5% Donation Program will remain in effect as it has here from day one.
