Kichung Lizee, Dr. Muberra Bulbul, Jean Judd, Michael Garr, Michael Schaffer, Steven Lamb, Leo Evans, Silvia Poloto, Paulo Medina, Yosef Reznikov, Austen Pinkerton offering original Mixed Media artworks. Mixed media art uses more than one medium to create the work of art. The use of mixed media in art arose around 1910-1912 with Picasso and Georges Braque using different materials in their cubist collates. An open attitude towards using multiple media for creating art has enabled artist to create fantastic mixed media artworks. We often think of mixed media artworks as photographs that have been painted over or paintings that have included other media such as wood, paper and other elements in their compositions. Robert Rauschenberg in the 1950's employed this type of mixed media approach with his famous "Combines". Often earlier artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Kurt Schwitters, many Bauhaus artists, Joseph Cornell, Hannah Hoech and many others used found objects to incorporate in their works of art. Today many works of art and installations use the mixed media approach where German artists such as Anselm Kiefer come to mind. Yet, let's not forget Joseph Beuys and his mixed media works of art that could also include performance in the artistic end product. Other art forms such as books, collage, decollage, modular art, multimedia and new media art all use multiples materials.

  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Kichung Lizee - After coming to this country from Korea in the mid 60's to study art, among the many forms of Western art that I was introduced to, Abstract Expressionism interested me most. Currently I am in the process of synthesizing Eastern and Western approaches to art. Specifically, I'm adopting the techniques and materials of Eastern calligraphy to Western thematic material, my primary goal being to close the gap between East and West and reach for universal creativity. Eastern calligraphy I learned is a living and breathing spirit, rather than the dead and rigid tradition of thousands of years. It is uniquely a form that conveys the pulsation of life energy. Through it, one can experience all aspects of the living spectrum. Eastern calligraphic form reveals the kind of life the artist has led, as well as foreshadowing the person one will become. It is the art form that manifests the self as a way of life or philosophy of life. It is a powerful art form that operates through direct intuition. As an artist I rely heavily on creative intuition. Moving with changes in the stream of consciousness, my creative intuition somehow brings out the subconscious and superconscious through ...

Dr. Muberra Bulbul - My art life that I started with realist oil painting in university years changed over time and became original. I couldnt get myself from the production of realistic work for a long time. I started to use collage technique in my years of masters, I have diversified it with watercolors and ink. I first worked on paper. Mythological stories and myths occurred in my head while making them. I tried to transfer them to my pictures. The myths had existed in every civilization, each society and faith reflected its own subjective existence. Different races and nations thought. Our essence was the same. We all believe in similar things and behave similarly. In my collages I tried to make a connection between the past and the present. I opened a personal exhibition that can exhibit their recognition. Later these collages became increasingly abstracted and turned into stains. Different painting techniques began to form tissue on the surface. In those tissues I caught the inner world of human. I, you, she or he. We have similar emotions, no matter who we are and wherever we are....

Jean Judd - Every quilt tells a story and every quilt is unique. The common factor in all quilts is that fabric and thread are used to create a piece of art. To many viewers, cutting up perfectly good pieces of fabric into little pieces and then sewing them together again into a totally different looking piece of fabric, is unbelievable. Who would want to do this day in and day out The dedicated quilt artist and fabric collector I have always enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together and the same person who enjoys jigsaw puzzles discovering a finished masterpiece constructed of hundreds or even thousands of little pieces is drawn to the magic of quilt design. Each quilt design is a puzzle waiting to be put together. The design starts in the quilt artists mind and is eventually transferred into reality with the final stitch in the quilt. Many times the original design is nothing like the finished quilt but this just adds to the excitement and the design potential for the next quilt design. What starts in the mind is often transformed into a bigger, better and more dramatic finished quilt than the artist ever imagined. I prefer to make my own ...

Michael Garr - I have been drawing and painting since Junior High. I enjoy quick art, impressionistic yet realistic, and minimal. There are interesting subjects all around us. My inspirations are architecture, people, light and shadow, the sea and boats, imagination... and the old masters. Get out and enjoy your surroundings. All my works are available as signed and numbered prints. I also do commission works, some examples of which are in the portfolio. I donate all proceeds to charity, and have recently teamed with SAVE THE BAY, a local Rhode Island eco-advocate organization, which receives 30 PER CENT of my proceeds. My opportunities for artistic expression have included drawing on napkins during airplane rides and waiting during my sons music lessons. In 2012 I took up oil painting for the first time, and my mentor is Lorena Pugh of North Kingstown. Ive done both Plein air and studio work in her presence, and am benefitting from the association. We have an informal group who meet and paint in Lorenas studio on Monday nights throughout the indoor season. I will continue to pursue art on a daily basis, and post the finished works here and on facebook for any and all to ...

Michael Schaffer - Exploring the realms of color, texture, drama, and feelings are the main ingredients of my art work. To inspire the viewer to deal with the issues presented to him is my goal. To inspire the viewer to interpret and react is my passion. I hope you have been inspired... or at least have an opinion. Art and life have many of the same ingredients for us to enjoy....

Steven Lamb - Ever since I remember myself as a person I dealt with my life by isolating myself and creating. For me the painting is not just a creative discipline, it's a vocation. To be able to deliver my visions and fantasies to the world, I trained myself in the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig, Germany. My perception of the world is always from a comical point of view. I have reached the conclusion for myself, that what matters the most ,is the human ability to laugh. I am using the grotesque as a tool of a social commentary, not to criticize , but to amuse and entertain. In most of my work I take inspiration from the beauty of the Montreal, its streets, buildings and people. Cafe scenes, clowns, magicians, singers, artists, families walking their dogs, coaches riding around are all funny, happy and exciting models for my work. The choice of the characters is influenced by my understanding of the world which I see through the eyes of a child. The people and animals in my paintings are always happy and ready to enjoy every little bit of their lives. Their appearances and clothing are not related to any ...

Steven Lamb - Silvia Poloto - Artist statement on PROCESS: Private Puzzles 2010 - 2011 I am drawn to the idea of abstraction, where meaning is not absolute but suggestive. Throughout my career I have worked in many different media: drawing, printmaking, painting, photography and sculpture to name a few. My photographic works, at the core, are "equivalents" of reality. That is to say, I create scenes or objects to be photographed, rather than illustrate existential situations. The process is an internal one inspired by personal experiences and imagination. My latest body of work combines processes I have used in the past, expressing the visual vocabulary I have already learned in new contexts. I begin by building plexiglass boxes, filling some of them with resin and others with wax. I then make drawings, which I print on transparent film and build up in layers on top of each box. I repeat this process until I am satisfied with the result and, then, I photograph it. Initially, I wanted to print very large-format photographs on watercolor paper. However, the high cost of printing such large pieces was prohibitive. A fellow photographer, and friend, offered the use of his own printer, but it was smaller than what I...

La pintura es poesAa silenciosa SimA3nides Artistic experience, as a spectator, and then, more directly, as an artist, has meant for me the possibility of transcending and reaching certain spaces that are intangible, but lived daily. As a creator, to be in front of a blank canvas or a digital image to be manipulated, is to be faced with a challenge that of translating to the language of forms, textures and colors something that has not yet been conceptualized, but that exists somewhere and that I desire to capture, expressing it through those materials and tools at my disposal. It thereby becomes a kind of game, in which time disappears and one enters into communion with the aesthetic experience with its infinity of moments, which go from pain to ecstasy. Self-taught experimentation in the field of art, has been for me one of the great pleasures of life. La experiencia artAstica ...

Austen Pinkerton - Austen Pinkerton If I turn my mind to it very quickly I can come up with several ideas for works aEUR|paintings, drawings, or sculptures. Sometimes ideas come to me when I least expect it, or when my mind is on other things. Ideas can be related to my current experiences, or to my feelings about things that are happening to me in my life at that particular time. Alternatively they can be related to a current interest, or something that occupies my attention at that moment, and my ideas and feelings about which Id like to share with others. A lot of my work is autobiographicalaEUR|either directly or indirectly, consciously or subconsciously. It is frequently very personal, and expresses events or circumstances or experiences in my life. I usually work in either Acrylic on Canvas, Crayon or Pastel, or both together, with Gouache, on card, Drawing in pencil, or Ink, or both, or with creating SculptureaEUR|for which I use fired artists clay. Sculpture follows a completely different set of rules and values from two-dimensional art, obviously, I think of it as Drawing in three dimensions and I take this into account when creating mine. In all my...
