Artwork Description:

Visually stunning abstract redwood sculpture with intriguing fluid forms that gracefully interact to create an uplifting sensation. The top serpentine component of the sculpture has been highly polished and thrusts diagonally upward with three prominent protrusions of varied lengths that appear similar to fingers of a hand. The lower sculpture component forms a comfortable cradle with several elongated curving wood protrusions that extend openly to softly support the wavy top form. Upon viewing the opposite side of this sculpture, the lower structure may appear similar to a separate open hand configuration with a thumb and fingers gently poised to hold the upper wood form. In essence, one hand supports another to provide psychological compassion and assurance. This unique sculpture has been composed with several redwood burls that have been carved with chain saws, shaped with grinders and hand crafted to further enhance the natural forms. After thorough sanding, the wood designs are assembled with multiple steel rods and sprayed with a durable clear oil, revealing all the natural wood colors and exotic grain patterns. The smooth, polished surface areas are later treated with a clear satin polyurethane that is applied by hand to accentuate and embellish certain areas of the sculpture design. Due to the nature of redwood burls, each sculpture is totally unique and cannot be duplicated. Although it is possible to create similar designs, they will never be exactly the same. All of the natural redwood used to create these sculptures has been reclaimed from the underground portions of fallen trees which have been victimized from winter storms, landslides or forest fires, therefor no living trees have been utilized.
